Accelerated Reader
Our school has a subscription to the web-based version of AR, a Renaissance Learning reading enrichment program. Books have been labeled with a color dot coordinated with reading levels. This guides students to look for books they can read and show comprehension by taking a quizon a computer. Depending on the difficulty and length of the book, points are accumulated for each student. Most picture books are worth 1/2 point, while some chapter books can exceed 10 points.
Students are assigned a reading level range after they take a Renaissance Learning STAR test. This test is repeated several times during the year to help monitor reading growth.
Throughout the school year, recognition is given on Fridays for point accumulations and making reading point goals. Three to four goal sessions will be set up for students to work on setting personal reading point challenges. At the end of each goal session an activity will be arranged funded by the College Place P.T.A.
